Relationships 101
A husband and wife came for counseling. When asked what the problem was, the wife went into a passionate, painful tirade listing every problem they had ever had in the years they had been married. She went on and on and on: neglect, lack of intimacy, emptiness, loneliness, feeling unloved and unlovable, an entire laundry list of un-met feelings.
Finally, after allowing this to go on for a sufficient length of time, the therapist got up, walked around the desk and, after asking the wife to stand, embraced and kissed her passionately. The woman shut up and quietly sat down as though in a daze. The therapist turned to the husband and said, "This is what your wife needs at least three times a week. Can you do this?"
The husband thought for a moment and replied, "Well, I can drop her off here on Mondays and Wednesdays, but on Fridays, I fish."
Does this sound like your relationship? Many relationships are just like this. Relationships require work from both partners. This may not sound like fun but if you want your relationship to be successful you need to put effort into your relationship. There are things you can do besides sending your partner to be kissed by the therapist (actually, law does not allow that).
All relationships have their ups and downs. Couples speak different languages. You can learn what language you speak and the language your partner speaks. There are some very clear signs in relationships that show if they are going to make it or not.
Living with Children with ADHD
All children with ADHD are not alike. Children come in a range of ADHD, from mild to cases with psychosis (this is rare). They come in a range of inattentive to hyperactive. Some medications work while other medication may make them more aggressive. Some cases of ADHD are misdiagnosed and may actually be depression. I have had four years of experience working with children with ADHD, from the mild to the severe.
